  1. It was an unbelievable moment, and nobody really knew what was going on until the second plane crashed into the second building. You never know when these kinds of things are going to happen again; therefore today people don't trust a lot of things. I can't remember what that day was like, but all I know is that it was a very sad day. I couldn't figure out if it was real life or a dream. I just can't believe we have people in this world today to kill innocent people for no reason. I think about it all the time and that could have been me and my fellow classmates, but I feel for the people who was in and touched by this incident. I really hope that America won't have to go through any other that again and that's my prayer everyday.

  2. I remember the day, I was in school when it happened but I don’t remember watching it at school. While we were at school everyone knew something was wrong, the day was just different. When I got home my mom and dad ran to me and we hugged me, and they told me what had happened. We turned on the TV and watched it. I was in the floor on a map that I had made watching the TV scared and in shock. My parents told me it was not time to worry so I fell asleep in the floor beside their room. Now, I look back on it in deep grief. It was I horrible day, but we have overcome it and moved on but the lives that were lost will never be forgotten.

  3. On September 11, 2001, I remember my first grade teacher turning on the television to watch the terrorist attack. I also remember us stopping for a moment of silence for the people that had been affected by the attack and collapsing of the World Trade Center. I feel like it was a very tragic event and that the terrorists should not have done, but they ruined many lives and families. They also tried to bring Americans down by attacking the World Trade Center, but it only made us Americans stronger.

  5. On September 11th, 2001, I was a kindergardener at Knight Enloe Elementary. Due to my age, of course, I was absolutely clueless! I remember everyone surrounding our teacher as she read to us, which was apart of our daily lesson. As a neighboring teacher quietly stepped in and whispered in her ear; her emotions switched from smiling and loving to suddenly horrific. It was as if our classroom environment reacted to her facial expression. I may not have know then what the confusion and chaos was about, but I understand now. I understand that thousands of lives were being lost, as we sat their in our small circle. And I understand that we shall never forget the events of 9-11.

  6. The events that took place on September 11, 2001, have vanished from my memory, as far as that exact day is involved; although, I am now well informed and educated on the matter. Two American air crafts were hijacked and taken over by terrorist that had one goal: to destroy the stability of the American government. As the first plane plunged into one of the towers, it caused instant chaos, but never did the rescue workers fathom that America was in danger of a terrorist attack. The second plane made its way into the, at the time, unharmed building and tremendously worsened the tragedy. New York is one of the U.S's most thriving states, therefore we can infer that this attack had been well planned. Somehow, America had received information stating that the next target was the pentagon; although, we were able to prevent this attack. In my opinion, if the third plane had accomplished the goal of destroying the pentagon, America would still be working towards the restoration of what we would have once had.

  7. September 11, 2001 is a day that the people of the United States will never forget. Many people lost their lives to the crash of the world trade centers. I don't remember that day, but I am well educated on what happened. I was in kindergarten and didn't have a clue what was going on. That day was a normal day for everyone, but little did we know what would happen that would change our lives forever. Two planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the South tower first then an hour later another tower was crashed into the North tower. Firefighters and police officers all tried their best to save as many people as they could. Unfortunately not everyone did get rescued including the rescuers. My heart is tender to the ones that knew that they were going to die and had no chance of being saved.

  8. On September 11, 2011, four American planes were hijacked by terrorists, these planes hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Thanks to some of the passengers on the last plane, it never made it to the planned destination, The White House. This horrid event has changed the United States forever. September 11, 2011, will be ten years since this shocking day. To think of how far my country has gotten and how much we have accomplished is a great and calming thing for me to think about because I know we didn't just sit back and allow that to happen to our great country.

  9. On the day of September the 11th 2001 , when the 911 happen . it was very tragic. and nerve racking, when the planes first crashed into the buildin , you would think that maybe no one was really hurt. until the second air plane crash into the building and it beging to smoke and burn even worser. the sad part was when the building begin to crash, it was no hope for anyone that you mite would think of to maike it out of the building. peoples falling from the building and people geting caught on fire was a breath taking moment. then after the second tower feel there was just a silence of nothing.

  10. I was in class sitting down talking, when a teacher came in our class and told our teacher to turn on our television. When she turned the tv on, all we saw was people running and a building burning.we didn't really know what was going on. We continued to watch until the second building was hit and then that's when our teacher figured that it was a terrorist attack. she was crying and some of the students was crying, i was amazed and still shocked at what was going on. After growing up and really understanding what happened that day. That event impacted me greatly, to the point where i actually wanted to go help at the scene in New York.It really sucks to know that so many people lost their lives that day.

  11. On September 11, 2001 I was in first grade and I can remember my teacher just breaking out in tears and everybody asking whats wrong but she wouldn't tell us. She tried teaching again and just couldn't bear it so she told us and we all looked at her like what are you talking about. Once school was out my mom came and got me and we sat at home and watched it the whole night. My mother explained to me in great detail about what happened. I felt sad for the people who lost loved ones and i was so scared that i wouldn't go in tall buildings for a while which we didn't really have. It angers now that im older that they attacked us that way.

  12. ON SEPTEMBER 11,2001 TWO PLANES HIT THE TWIN TOWERS IN NEW YORK. IT WAS A VERY SHOCKING MOMENT FOR ME AND THE PEOPLE IN THE TWIN TOWERS. WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANNA HIT THE TWIN TOWERS , WE DON'T KNOW. THOUGH WE DID NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WAS REALLY HAPPENING. PEOPLE WERE CALLING THERE FAMILY AND TELLING THEM THEY LOVED THEM AND TELLING THEM BYE. IT WAS CHAOS AND PEOPLE WERE DOING THERE BEST TO HELP PEOPLE. IT WAS A VERY SAD DAY PEOPLE WERE BEING KILLED AND PEOPLE WERE JUMPING OUT OF THE BUILDING. STILL TODAY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD AND MYSELF ARE STILL SHOCKED ABOUT WHAT HAPPEN AND SAD ABOUT WHO DIED AND PROUD OF THE PEOPLE THAT HELP SAVED THE ONES THAT ARE STILL LIVING.

  13. I hardly remember the day of 9-11 because i was so young. I was in kindergarten and had no idea what was happening. Today i know more about what happen than i did then and i think it was a terrible event. I could not understand why someone would do such a horrible thing. I know it was hard for the people that lost family and friends in this event.

  14. September 11th 2001 was a very confusing day for me I can still remember where I was and what I was doing when the news of the tragedy struck...My classmates and I were in the library picking out our book, when coach Henderson comes rushing in the door and tells the librarian to turn the tv on there has been a terrorist attack. I was confused i really didn't know what to think but by the expressions on the teachers face i could tell it wasn't good. Today i realize how big of a deal it was and how it effected our country forever...

  15. The terrorist attack of 9-11 was a devastating and chaotic emergency. I do not remember the day that the World Trade Centers attacked but now that I think about that day, I feel sorry for all of the people who lost loved ones that day. I couldn't have imagined having a loved one in the world trade centers.

After a little while the buildings started to collapse and everyone started to run. There was white/gray ashes falling everywhere and getting all over people. this attack has affected everyone and i believe it always will play a part in someones heart.

  19. I remember I was in the first grade when the attack of The World Trade Center by terrorist had happened on September 11, 2001. Many people lost their lives due to that attack. This day was very horrific and sad. I couldn't imagine going through something like that. The people trapped in the building lost their lives dude to someone with so much hatred in them to hurt themselves and others because they don't like our country and what we stand for. This very day we still remember the people who helped and lost their lives on September 11, 2011.

  20. What i remember was when the teacher told us to stop what we doing and look it the T.V. On the t.v. it said two air planes had hit the World Trade Center. They said there was more than three hundred people had died in the city of New York. The Trade Center towers to rescue others when the building collapsed. People was scared and shocked when that had happen. Then people had got cover with smoke and ashes.

  21. People will never for get about September 9, 2001. This was a dark day in the history of the United States. When the first planes hit the towers people started calling 911. There were to many 911 calls to all be heard. When people had started hearing about it they were in shock and disbelief. No one had believed that the towers would ever fall. After 30 minuteness tower 1 fell. This is when some phone calls stopped calling 911. After 28 minuteness of the 1st tower falling the second tower fell. The people of the United states will never for get this day because this was the worst act of terror on the U.S even worse than Pearl Harbor. Just remember how lucky you are in life and how blessd you are to have your family because you could have been one of those people in the towers.

  23. This is a time where all you need to see is pictures and video recording. Mother, father, sons, and daughters were searching for their family and friends. Just think about your family in this situation wanting to know where you was. Think about the plenty of people who jump out the building instead of burning to death. Also think about the people who was on the ground looking up and smelling people burning.

  24. I remember I was in school in the 1st grade. I was so upset I remember my teacher turn the t.v. on because there was a terrorist attack. I was so shocked and sad that day. Because I have a family member that live there. And all I could think about was him. So that day after I went home and my grandmother said that he had called and said he was OK. He said that he was walking out of a cloth store when it happened and that was a few blocks away.

  25. On September 9, 2001 I remembered sitting in my first grade classroom looking at the television of the World Trade Center being hit by an airplane. This was one of the saddest moments of my life. The impact that it has on this country was causing a deepening in the recession and a loss of U.S. economic authority power. It also impacted America by increasing the spending and technology developed. This event have affected many people life then and now.

  26. I don't really remember much. I was in 1st grade when it happened. Since 2001, with me growing up and learning I know that this event was catastrophic. It has had a major impact on airline travel. When I flew to Vegas it was a very long process. They also have a "No Fly Zone" This list tells who can not fly on any airline due to safety of the people. I do remember that I was sitting in class at my desk coloring and the principle called over the intercom and asked for all teachers to turn on their tv's. We didn't really understand what had happened. We knew that it was something bad. I remember that in 2001 my cousin, Karla, graduated high school. After graduation she told me she was joining the Navy. Now I understand why my aunt cries for her child. Karla returned from Afghanistan a few days after Christmas. We didn't know were she was or how she was doing for a long time. I truly do believe that 9/11 affected everyone weather they know it or not.

  28. September 11, 2001 was a tragic event. People would've never imaged such a tragic event like this. When the first plane hit, people thought it was just a horrible accident until the 2nd plane crashed into the South Tower. 911 had an impact on thousands of people lives. Dispatchers were impacted in somewhat of a way because they were telling people to stay where they were and then all of a sudden the building collapse and complete silence.

  30. It was a terrible day in my thought. Important people in families and cities died. Innocent people on planes and in buildings died. It was unexpected and a shocking moment for citizens. It seemed unreal and fictional. Lots of people will not forget this day. This day remade the United States as a more secure nation.

  31. The day that the world trade center was terrible. It has effected everyone in the United States there were many people that died. Many jumped from the building others were rescued and many were burned to death. At first everyone thought that it was an accident until another plane hit the other tower. There were many firefighters that had to go in the building were killed when it collapsed. There were alot of brave people that died that day. This day was the saddest day for American citizens.

  32. It's funny how it was such a sunny and good day then suddenly you see a plane crash into the Twin Towers. I think it would leave a permanent scar on the survivors and the people that lost their loved ones. I think there will always be a permanent scar on the United States. I'm pretty sure that if you randomly ask anyone what happened on 9/11 then they will know what your talking about. It was a hugely tragic day and a most memorable one. It shook America. Now it is yearly remembered and even the new and unknowing generations are informed of it because it is a part of american history.

  33. This event in time was very devastating for us all no matter if you knew someone who worked there or not. Our hearts broke as soon as we saw the planes hit the buildings and we shall never forget the event. It will live in our heart forever. People try make the people of America scared and break through terror. This will not happen. When I heard my mom tell me what happened I did not understand since I was only in Kindergarten or 1st grade. I was scared though every one in our house and school was scared there was gonna be another attack. I knew that this event would go down in history and i broke down in tears. I felt for the families of the victims of the twin towers and the planes. I remember everything from that day and things i have found out from then. I will never forget this day. This just shows people that you cannot break America. I look back on this now and wish the police officers would have told the people in the towers to get out as fast as they can no matter what happened. Worry and emotions raided the U.S. People will never let this go and will never forget this tragedy.

  35. September 11, 2001 one was a day that our country would never forget. I could never imagine how the persons involved felt that day. Seeing footage of what actually happened really made me think a lot. I didn't really know what was going on when it happened because I was too young, but now i really feel what happened that day. THe people who did this were pure evil, but I am happy that our country has overcome this disaster. I really believe God has helped our country get through this tragedy.

  36. The day of 9-11 was a tragedy. It killed hundreds, and injured many. It altered lives of people know woke up that morning thinking it was just a normal day. Many people lost their loved ones, friends, siblings, spouses, and children. Although we lost something and some people we can never replace, we gained something also. Pride. The United States became just that..united. Strangers going out of their way to help people they may have possibly never even met. The United States came together that day in a way that they never have before. They came together not to fight, not to wage war, but to help each other. To love and show compassion. And that it something that Americans will never forget.

  37. The attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 was the most devastating phenomenon to happen to the United States. Many people were killed during and after the attack, but instead of tearing the United States apart, it brought them closer. People thought that on that day their freedom would've been in peril, but the attack just made them stronger. It made the people of the United States think differently about out country. We are blessed to have as much freedom as we do that many countries do not have.

  38. On September 9, 2001 two planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. This day went from a sunny summer day to smoke filling the sky and people getting away from the building crying and screaming. When this happened it made the US live in fear because we were the richest and most powerful before this occurred. It impacted the US extremely because not only did we lose our friends and loved ones, but we also lost our heroes, such as firefighters, medical personnel and police officers. These heroes did not know that they were going to show up and never return home to their loved ones. We still honor all those who lost their lives on this day. I was in the first grade when this happened and all I remember was coming home and turning on my t.v. and see buildings collapsing straight to the ground.

  39. This was a horrible time in American history. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was was in 1st grade and I was sitting in my desk beside Will Tennent. We were talking and doing our spelling work and then the principal walked in crying. She told our teacher that the World Trade Center had been hit. The teacher turned to tv on and we all saw the 2nd tower get hit and then the teacher started crying but we did not know what was happening. We were to young to know what was happening but I knew that it was not good because I got like a bad vibe off of it. If I could have done anything to help anybody from anywhere I would have done it with out having any regret.

  40. I really can't put myself in the people position and say how they feel, because I would be lying. When I found out what had happened I was in the first grade on my way to lunch. About 3,000 people died from this tragic event. Some people was rescued, some never had a chance to get out. At first they thought the first plane was an accident, then when the second one hit the knew that it wasn't an accident. Some of the people that witnessed it can not even watch it now. I hope I don't ever have to witness anything like this.

  41. The event on September 9, 2001 has had a big impact on Americans across the country. When this actual even occurred, I was about 6 or 7 years old. My mom, my sister and I were going to town and about nine o-clock a.m. my mom got a phone call from my dad. He said you need to turn the t.v. on because a plane just crashed into the world trade center. Being that young, I didn't really know what was going on or anything, but I knew whatever it was; my mom was really upset by it. Now that I am older and more mature, I cannot imagine what it was like to have been in those buildings or even in New York. This devastating event has been remembered for ten years and will continue to be branded in our minds forever. Although it was devastating to all Americans, it has helped us all become one nation.

  42. When 9 11 happened i was in the second grade and at the time i really didn't understand what was going on all i knew was that 2 planes hit 2 buildings and at the time i really didn't know where are why it happened. Now that I'm in 11th grade i cant explain how hard it is to watch what really happened on that faithful day. It is so heartbreaking to know that many people lost their relatives and to see everyone crying it makes me want to reach out to everyone who lost someone on 9 11. Watching 9 11 makes me want to cry because i could have lost one of my family members in that attack and to know that people in the building could not go home are see their family again is very sad and its unreal to know that 3,000 people lost their lives its like a movie.

  43. On a beautiful September morning, the history of the U.S. changed forever with a cowardly act of horrific violence committed against innocent citizens of the U.S. I was in my classroom supervising my students as they worked on WWI projects when Mr. Marcum, our principal at the time, came into my room and asked me if I was watching television. I thought it was strange that my boss was asking me if I was watching television when I was supposed to be teaching a class. He told me that my mom had just called from the central office and said that the towers had been hit in NYC and it appeared to be an act of terrorism. I immediately turned on our little Channel One television and the students stopped their WWI projects to watch the events unfold, live. The indelible mark on my memory came a little while later, staring at the same tv in my classroom, as I watched the first building fall. I just kept saying, "those people...all those people." Today in class we read a few pages about 9-11 and watched a video clip entitled "The Voices of 9-11." My students were 6 or 7 years old but still have memories of the day...some more vivid than others. The saddest thing from the video clip we heard today were the messages left behind...on voice mails...answering machines...etc...of those in the towers who would never make it home for dinner...These messages, in many instances, were all their families had left of them. The thing that stood out to me from our reading was the eventual effect the attacks had on our country...the book called us the "re-United States of America" and I believe that to be true. You saw flags everywhere, people helping strangers, and families holding their loved ones closer. Even though I would never want to see a terrorist attack on U.S. citizens...at home or abroad...I wish we could remember again how we are ALL Americans and how fortunate we are to live in a free land. Maybe then our country could realize its true greatness and rebuild itself into the "United" States of American.

  44. The only thing that I really remember about this day is that we were in 1st grade and that it made a big impact on the United States. Many people still grieve over this because many of their loved ones were part of this act. I really think that this was the worst act of terror on the United States. When I really look back at it, it really makes me wonder why would someone actually do something like this to America? It was just crazy. The grievance now and the grievance then is about the same because nothing could ever change what happened. But that really made Americans realize that anything can really happen any day.

I don't remember what i was doin, but when the cameras started rolling to cath what was happening, everything stopped. It was as if time, itself, stood still, as the planes crashed into the twin towers and the Pentagon. I do remember the story of the people that rose up against the Iraqians in the fourth plane. I remember seeing the video a person took of the smoke and debris wooshing past as another part of the building fell down. I was glad when it was over.

All I really remember is her stopping class, and turning on the news. Now that I'm older I understand how tragic this event was, and how many people were affected. 58. I still remeber the attack. I think about it often. I was in Mrs. Baileys first grade class. Another teacher came in and whispered to her and she turned on the tv and we all gathered around the computer montitor and watched the attack. We started watching just as the second plane hit the second tower. Everyone was crying. Kids were scared and wanting their parents. I remeber everyone picked up there kids really quick if they hadnt already checked them out. We went to my grandparents house and watched the rest of it there. We stayed up late watching it. It was a very tragick time in American History

  59. September 11th was very tragic. This day will never be forgotten. It will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Many lives were lost trying to save others in the twin towers. They will always remain in our hearts. So many people were shocked at this fact and hurt by it.

  60. On September 11, two planes hit the twin towers in New York. Millions of people died from this and never will be forgotten. After seeing the first plane crash into the first building i thought it was an accident but i knew otherwise after seeing the seconf plane. September 11 is a very sad and tragic moment and i wish that it wouldn've happened. I was young and it was a hard thing to see. Everytime sept.11 comes i think about all the people who died from this tragic accident!

  62. I don't remember what happened that day, i was too young to know or even care about what happened, but now that i look back, i wish i would have asked and learned a little more, now a days people make threats, bomb threats and all this other un necessary stuff, and personally it gets on my nerves, but what can i do? exactly, nothing... so i will just continue to think about life as it is right now instead of how it will be tomorrow. i don't know what happened on 9/11, but i know that apparently there were a bunch of people mad at the americans, and im american so... all i got to say is, if their not an american, they need to go back where they came from

  63. I don't really remember 911 other than people going from happy to sad. I remember I was in kindergarten and our teacher was reading to us, and another teacher came in and whispered in her ear, and from her expression on her face she didn't seem happy she seemed like she was about to bust out into tears. The whole class just looked concerned, we started asking what was wrong but we never really understood what happened until they were broadcasting it on the news. Many people died in the crash and a lot of people lost their loved ones. I feel sorry for all the lives that were lost and I hope it never happens again because it would be another tragic thing.

"Two towers of strength that rose up so high reaching for dreams they stretched towards the sky. They lay now in ruins at the hands of hate. Great symbols of our nation have met this fate." - A firefighter. September 11, 2000 was a tragic day for american citizens. On September 11 we should take a moment of for the families who lost loved ones.

  66. I was principal at HHS on 9/11/01 and I remember Mrs. Teresa Jones coming into my office after returning from the central office to tell me that a “plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.” At that time I was busy working on a report that was due to the central office. My thoughts were that it was a terrible accident and then I continued work on my report. Then a few minutes later- Mrs. Jones came back in to say “another plane has hit one of the towers.” I knew then it was not an accident and that we were under attack. Needless to say my report was not completed that day. I spent the rest of the day watching the news reports in different classrooms throughout the building. The staff and students at HHS were all glued to T.V.’s as we watched reports from these attacks as well as the ones about the attacks on the Pentagon and the crash of the plane in Pennsylvania. My whole life I had heard with vivid detail as people older than me told me exactly what they were doing when they found out that President Kennedy had been shot. I knew that we were living in a similar type of event in that we would all remember what we were doing the day our nation was attacked.

  67. 911 was very devastating. I never saw it but know everything that was said about it. So many loved ones were lost, but they will always be remembered. People were crrying because of the deaths of friends and family.

  69. I was sitting in biology class studying fruit flies (I was in my first semester @ SUSCC) when this guy came rushing in and told us that a plane flew into the World Trade Center. We all talked about how horrible that was & moved right along examining the flies. Next thing I know, the same guy came back in crying saying "Cut on the t.v. now!" That is when we saw the images of the second plane hitting the tower. SUSCC dismissed all that classes early that day. My parents owned 2 gas stations, so when I left Wadley I went straight to work and found out that the people of Roanoke (much like all over the U.S.) were panicking not knowing what was in store for the future. People were concerned with oil (a.k.a. gas for your cars)b/c the majority of it comes from overseas. I guess it wasn't until that day that I really understood what a terrorist attack was & how it could take a toll on everybody. I learned not to take any day for granted, b/c we are not promised tomorrow. I never dreamed that 10 years later, I would be standing in front of a classroom teaching my students about 9-11. I am proud to say that I am the wife of a police officer, the daughter of a firefighter, and the sister of an EMT.
